The CMG, like hundreds of individual Canadians and organizations, filed a submission with the CRTC supporting APTN’s licence renewal in February. In our intervention, we highlighted the many ways APTN contributes to Canada’s broadcast system as a source of programming and news by, for and about Canada’s Indigenous peoples. We are still waiting for the regulator’s decision.

As part of our intervention, Guild members at APTN expressed their ambition to continue doing meaningful work at a broadcaster that connects their communities and contributes unique voices to Canada’s major debates.

Specifically,  CMG asked the Commission to:

– Renew APTN’s broadcast licence
– Reconfirm APTN’s must-carry status under 9.1(h) of the Broadcasting Act in recognition of its exceptional contributions to the Canadian broadcast system
– Approve the wholesale rate of $0.40 per subscriber per month to support APTN’s continued development as an indispensable source of programming and news by, for and about Canada’s Indigenous peoples.
