Employees of the operations department will vote December 7 on whether they are in favour of joining the Canadian Media Guild. The vote will take place on-site at Alliance Atlantis on Bloor Street East, from 6 am to 11 am and again from 2 pm to 6 pm on that day.
Do I get to vote?
All regular employees in the department as of July 2005, when the Guild’s original application for union affiliation was filed, are eligible to vote.
What am I voting on?
You will be asked whether you want to join the Canadian Media Guild. Joining a union such as the Guild means employees will be able to bargain together for their working conditions, pay and benefits, instead of leaving it up to management.
Why am I voting if I already signed a card?
A majority of employees within the department signed union cards this year. The Canada Industrial Relations board could have granted automatic certification to the union. Instead, it is now ordering employees to vote on whether they want to join the Guild. It’s important that you vote, whether or not you signed a card.
How can I get more information before voting?
Guild representatives and supporters of the union at Alliance Atlantis will continue to make themselves available to answer any questions you may have. You’ll find information on bulletin boards on the first and eighth floors. And flyers will be handed out in the lobby. You can call the Guild’s national office at 416-591-5333 or Guild vice president Scott Edmonds at 416-420-6136 (cell).
