The Canadian Media Guild has filed to be the officially certified union to represent around 80 employees at Toronto 1, the television station now owned by Quebecor. The Guild looks forward to working with employees at Toronto 1 to develop a productive relationship with managers from the company.

Over the past few months, Toronto 1 employees have been working with the Guild to bring a union to the station to address long hours, unpaid overtime, random decisions and lack of planning, among other things.

Our application now rests with the Canada Industrial Relations Board. We don’t know how long it will take for the CIRB to approve the certification. In the meantime, we are meeting with Toronto 1 employees to begin putting an internal structure in place.

The Guild hopes to welcome our newest members to the fold officially in the near future.
