In April, the Toronto LEC donated $500.00 to a project that one of our members is involved with DIVOG- Disaster Volunteers in Ghana. Jill Dempsey spent two weeks in Ghana with a group of Ryerson professors and 12 students from the Radio and Television Arts program building a school and a radio station in Adaklu Dawanu in the Volta Region of Ghana.
The money was used to provide additional support for school supplies and the radio station. Jill will return late this year (on her own dime) to train the radio station volunteers. The group is also working on our next project for the area-a medical clinic.
This project makes the issue of social justice real for these students. When they complete their studies at Ryerson, they may be working as Guild Members in Radio and Television. Your support will give them a clear understanding of the kind of initiatives CMG supports: social justice and the development of journalists.
