Note to all Canadian Media Guild Elected Representatives,

The Toronto Location Unit of the CBC Branch of the Canadian Media Guild represents about 2000 members or half of the total CMG membership.  In light of recent events the Toronto Location Executive Committee is declaring its support for the elected officials of the Canadian Media Guild.  In this difficult time we need to stand together and support our members and our elected officials in a positive and progressive way.  We want to show our support particularly for Carmel Smyth and Lise Lareau as the President and Vice-President of the Canadian Media Guild and their hard work and clear-minded approach to the challenges we face.

The CMG has an election process of the greatest integrity and has proper procedures in place regarding dereliction of duty which are consistent with our Parent Union.  It is at election time that people can make their influence felt through their ballot.  Any attempt to undermine or circumvent this process between elections we consider to be unhelpful and destructive to the principles of this union and the solidarity to have it function properly.

Although there will always be room for disagreement in the direction of the union it is important that our democratic procedures are invoked to express those opinions.
