{"id":2686,"date":"2017-05-02T23:59:26","date_gmt":"2017-05-02T23:59:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cmg.ca\/toronto\/cbc\/?p=2686"},"modified":"2017-05-02T23:59:26","modified_gmt":"2017-05-02T23:59:26","slug":"cmg-urges-cbc-management-to-reinvest-in-the-public-broadcaster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cmg.ca\/toronto\/cbc\/cmg-urges-cbc-management-to-reinvest-in-the-public-broadcaster\/","title":{"rendered":"CMG urges CBC management to reinvest in the public broadcaster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><em>Version fran\u00e7aise de ce message ci-dessous<br \/>\n<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>May 2, 2017<strong><\/p>\n<p><\/strong>With the 2017 federal budget, we have entered into the second year of the government\u2019s five-year commitment to restore funding for CBC\/Radio-Canada after decades of cuts.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Media Guild was disappointed that last year CBC management committed just 5% of the first instalment of additional funding to news and local programming.<\/p>\n<p>With this year\u2019s funding, CMG is urging CBC\/Radio-Canada\u2019s management to put a larger portion of the $150-million toward rebuilding capacity in communities across the country including in newsgathering and original reporting, as well as other local programming Canadians expect and deserve.<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing cuts have had a negative impact on our members. The CMG believes increased workload and other demands have led to high stress levels in the workforce.<\/p>\n<p>The reality of CBC\/Radio-Canada is that job numbers have dropped significantly over the last 8 years, from approximately 4,200 to less than 3,500 permanent and contract positions. Even with more public funding committed by the current government in order to rebuild the CBC after decades of cuts, we are still seeing the institution reduce its size and capacity. Much of this is the result of outsourcing\/freelancing and commissioning.<\/p>\n<p>CBC Branch Executive,<br \/>\nCanadian Media Guild (CMG)<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Le 2 mai 2017<\/p>\n<p><strong>La Guilde presse la direction de Radio-Canada de r\u00e9investir dans le diffuseur public<\/p>\n<p><\/strong>Avec le budget f\u00e9d\u00e9ral de 2017, nous sommes entr\u00e9s dans la deuxi\u00e8me ann\u00e9e de l\u2019engagement de cinq ans pris par le gouvernement f\u00e9d\u00e9ral de r\u00e9tablir le financement de Radio-Canada\/CBC apr\u00e8s des d\u00e9cennies de compressions.<\/p>\n<p>La Guilde canadienne des m\u00e9dias a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9\u00e7ue de voir que l\u2019an dernier la direction de Radio-Canada\/CBC n\u2019a consacr\u00e9 que 5 % du premier versement du financement additionnel aux nouvelles et \u00e0 la programmation locale.<\/p>\n<p>Avec le financement de cette ann\u00e9e, la Guilde exhorte la direction de Radio-Canada\/CBC d\u2019affecter une plus grande portion des 150 millions $ \u00e0 reb\u00e2tir la capacit\u00e9 dans les collectivit\u00e9s partout au pays notamment la collecte de nouvelles et les reportages originaux, ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 diverses programmations locales auxquelles les Canadiens s\u2019attendent et qu\u2019ils m\u00e9ritent.<\/p>\n<p>Les compressions continues ont des r\u00e9percussions n\u00e9gatives sur nos membres. La Guilde est d\u2019avis que l\u2019accroissement de la charge de travail et d\u2019autres exigences ont men\u00e9 \u00e0 des niveaux de stress \u00e9lev\u00e9s chez les employ\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>La r\u00e9alit\u00e9 de Radio-Canada\/CBC est que le nombre d\u2019emplois a baiss\u00e9 de mani\u00e8re significative au cours des 8 derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, passant d\u2019environ 4 200 \u00e0 moins de 3 500 postes permanents et contractuels. M\u00eame avec l\u2019apport d\u2019un financement public suppl\u00e9mentaire par le gouvernement actuel en vue de reb\u00e2tir Radio-Canada\/CBC apr\u00e8s des dizaines d\u2019ann\u00e9es de coupes, nous constatons que l\u2019institution continue de r\u00e9duire sa taille et sa capacit\u00e9.
