{"id":3197,"date":"2019-02-06T22:30:25","date_gmt":"2019-02-06T22:30:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cmg.ca\/toronto\/cbc\/?p=3197"},"modified":"2019-02-06T22:33:05","modified_gmt":"2019-02-06T22:33:05","slug":"seeking-member-participation-union-committees-at-cbc-in-toronto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cmg.ca\/toronto\/cbc\/seeking-member-participation-union-committees-at-cbc-in-toronto\/","title":{"rendered":"Seeking member participation: Union Committees at CBC in Toronto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>January 30,\u00a0 2019<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><strong>Seeking member participation: Union Committees at CBC in Toronto<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>As the <a href=\"https:\/\/lnk.ie\/30BTK\/e=mattfguerin@icloud.com\/https:\/\/www.cmg.ca\/toronto\/cbc\/local-executive\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">newly elected members of CBC Toronto CMG Location Unit\u2019s Executive committee (LEC)<\/a> begin our two-year term, we are looking for fellow Canadian Media Guild (CMG) members to participate and serve on our location unit\u2019s committees, serving members\u2019 interests locally.<\/p>\n<p>Committee work plays a central role in ensuring a better workplace at CBC Toronto. Working and participating on a committee gives you a chance to contribute towards the wellbeing of our co-workers. You will also gain a deeper understanding of how our workplace operates.<\/p>\n<p>If you are currently serving on one of the committees listed below, we encourage you to please re-apply.\u00a0 We will be seeking a mix of experienced candidates as well as fresh participants.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>We invite you to please consider applying for one or more of the following union committees:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Local Joint Committee<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2013 This joint union-management committee addresses a variety of concerns that can be solved locally between CBC management and our union. Fact-finding and strong communication skills are needed. This committee requires one member to be from SRC, who will also sit on the Ontario SRC Regional Joint Committee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Local Health &amp; Safety Committee<\/strong> \u2013 This joint union-management committee deals with workplace protection issues.\u00a0 A good knowledge of our various working environments, as well as cooperative problem-solving skills are helpful.\u00a0 Responsibilities include conducting workplace inspections, and monthly Thursday meetings. Must be a CBC employee working five days per week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Local Temporary Committee<\/strong> \u2013 This committee assesses the situation of employees hired under temporary status to determine if they are engaged properly, and works jointly with CBC\u2019s human resources department to remedy classifications issues.\u00a0 Data management skills, a good working knowledge of the CMG-CBC Collective Agreement, as well as thorough understanding of the CBC workplace structure are essential.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Local Joint Employment Committee (Workforce Adjustment)<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2013 This is a joint union-management committee that works to find alternate jobs within CBC for members given a layoff or redundancy notice. Committee members meet with affected individuals, examine their skills, and try to find another workable position within CBC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Local Grievance Committee<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Any grievances filed at the Location Unit level are dealt with by this joint union-management committee. The committee\u2019s union members meet in tandem with management and representatives of the human resources department to look for resolutions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Local Toronto Election Committee<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0This CMG committee is charged with running all Location Unit elections, ensuring there is fairness in the process, and that proper protocol is being followed.\u00a0 CMG members who currently hold an elected position are not eligible to serve on this committee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PMSD Committee<\/strong> \u2013 This union-management committee is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Performance Management Staff Development (PMSD) process in Toronto for CMG members.
