{"id":3514,"date":"2020-08-23T21:13:20","date_gmt":"2020-08-23T21:13:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cmg.ca\/toronto\/cbc\/?p=3514"},"modified":"2020-08-23T21:14:28","modified_gmt":"2020-08-23T21:14:28","slug":"cbc-toronto-location-executive-committee-meeting-minutes-friday-june-19-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cmg.ca\/toronto\/cbc\/cbc-toronto-location-executive-committee-meeting-minutes-friday-june-19-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"CBC TORONTO LOCATION EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE Meeting Minutes: Friday, June 19, 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><b>CBC TORONTO LOCATION EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE<\/b><\/h1>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Official Minutes\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>Meeting Minutes:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 Friday, June 19, 2020 \u2014 10:00 AM-4:00 PM<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Location<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: via phone<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Present:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Lynne Chichakian, Ines Colabrese, Matt Guerin, Naomi Robinson, Julian Uzielli, Wendy Walker, Lorne Szatmary, Joe Fiorino, Natasha MacDonald-Dupuis, Olena Sullivan, Brent Cousland, Vish Gajadhar, Krista Joliffe.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Regrets:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meeting begins at time 10:05 AM<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>A motion to adopt agenda as is<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 moved by Lorne, seconded by Julian, passed unanimously.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>A motion to adopt May 1, 2020 minutes as is &#8211; <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">moved by Ines, second by Olena, Vish &amp; Krista abstain, passed unanimously.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>A motion to adopt May 28, 2020 minutes as amended &#8211; <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">moved by Krista, second by Lorne, Vish &amp; Olena abstain, passed unanimously.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NEW BUSINESS<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anti-Racism Activism<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This has been a big issue since May 28 and there has been a plethora of quite organic\u00a0 and fervent action and conversations in all parts of the CBC.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LEC to connect members to the JEDI working group to coordinate voices.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wendy shared the efforts from the CMBR department.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Julian shared the efforts of the Temp committee.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A temp activist group has identified what they as issues of systemic racism at the CBC.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BIPOC Members<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Discussion of new hires having no voice due to the precarious nature of their temp work.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Discussion of bias towards BIPOC journalists and writers from white editors, managers, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Discussion regarding the JSP and shutting down of viewpoints that are seen as subjective and not objective.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Discussion is about employee retention through promotion.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Discussion about lack of exit interviews, especially if someone cites racism as reason for quitting.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Discussion of BIPOC representation in other departments than News and their writers.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parents During COVID<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HR has put all the Parents WFH information on one spot on IO.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Execs and Seniors have been reaching out and making more of an effort to support parents.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Erin Silverman has started a radio Parents meeting on Monday, July 6 at noon. If you know of parents who are struggling, reach out to Erin to join the meeting or see if they want to make their own collective.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An email is going to all members with results of the Pandemic Survey.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parking Reimbursement<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parking reimbursements have come to an end in most departments.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Convention Centre might continue parking and may put in a reduced rate. Check with them for updates.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.1 Percent Fund<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The .1 Percent Fund is held by an alliance of unions and was put together to help pay for new drugs so members could access it when costs were prohibitive.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Due to complications beyond CMG\u2019s control, it cannot be accessed during the pandemic.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We will continue to press for updates on access.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LEC Roles\/ Descriptions &amp; Fall Election Prep<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Changes to the roles and descriptions as per the AGM. This role has been recommended since 2016 and other Canadian unions have this role.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Winning candidate was Enrico Defrazio who was an east coast rep. He starts immediately and is moving to Toronto.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ON-GOING BUSINESS<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ice Cream Day\/Freezie Friday<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tentatively scheduled for Thursday, July 23, 1-3pm pending OK from IR.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Danger Pay<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CMG continues to bring this issue up and, after getting a no for danger pay, has tried to pivot and ask for extra days leave for members.
