{"id":3629,"date":"2021-03-02T00:01:18","date_gmt":"2021-03-02T00:01:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cmg.ca\/toronto\/cbc\/?p=3629"},"modified":"2021-03-02T00:01:18","modified_gmt":"2021-03-02T00:01:18","slug":"cbc-toronto-location-executive-committee-meeting-minutes-wednesday-jan-20-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cmg.ca\/toronto\/cbc\/cbc-toronto-location-executive-committee-meeting-minutes-wednesday-jan-20-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"CBC TORONTO LOCATION EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE Meeting Minutes: Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CBC LEC Meeting Minutes &#8211; January 20\/21<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><b>Attending<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Vishnu Gajadhar, Naomi Robinson, Olena Sullivan, Matt Guerin, David Orian, Lyne Fran\u00e7oise Pelletier, Krista Jolliffe, Joe Fiorino, Wendy Walker, Jann Shreve, Kat McMorrow.<\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Adoption of agenda \u2014 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moved by Joe, seconded by Kat, approved unanimously.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Adoption of past minutes with modification from Wendy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; December 3, 2020 \u2014 Moved by Krista, seconded by Naomi, with Kat, Lyne, David and Jann abstaining, approved unanimously.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vish welcomed the new LEC for 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NEW BUSINESS<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Members introductions<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The existing LEC introduced themselves to the new members so that they know who we are, what we do at the CBC and what we do in the LEC.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New LEC members introduced themselves, letting us know what they do at the CBC and why they wanted to be part of the LEC.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Staff Rep Introductions\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Patrick Legay and Matt Douglas from the CMG joined at 11:30am<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Patrick will be the primary on local grievance, is on some national committees, and is assigned to Editorial, TV News, and 4th floor.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mat will be primary on joint labour management, national JC and education for the guild.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our Roles <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Blue Sky Planning Session<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vish will look at the safety of working in the building during Covid, danger pay, and member outreach through a quarterly stewards newsletter<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Olena will look at putting together a more robust social communication strategy with Vish and Naomi<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kat will look into the onboarding process, welcome sessions, orientation meetings, workers rights information, working with the Temp committee and the Diversity ERG.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jann will look at diversity coverage and microaggressions in print, online, on air and in interactions and how to deal with these things more quickly.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Naomi will work on online stewards, retirement readiness, job interview, and bystander training as well as member events.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Member Support<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>MOTION: <\/b><b><i>We approve up to $300 to support a member who has faced grave personal crisis.<\/i><\/b><b> Joe seconds. Passed unanimously.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Online cards will be set up, signed and sent<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2021 Budget<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The budget overview document was shared with the group to review and start planning the budget for 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An expenses Google Doc will be shared with the team.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All LEC members to have a look at the proposed budget for discussion next month. Budget to be passed next month.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Technology for Meetings<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The LEC will be moving from Google Hangouts to Zoom for member meetings, workshops and town halls.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>MOTION: <i>Whereas the COVID-19 pandemic has made in person meetings against public health policies, and; Whereas there is no firm end date to this situation,\u00a0 and; Whereas consulting together and outreach to members is more important now than ever, and; Whereas Zoom is proving to be the most reliable virtual meeting software working on devices across all platforms, and; Whereas easy access to our own Zoom license will spur usage and encourage virtual gatherings amongst local members for myriad reasons;<\/i><i> The LEC proposes to purchase a one year license for ZOOM for up to $3100. It will be used for LEC meetings, committee meetings and member outreach<\/i><i>. <\/i>Moved by Naomi. Second by Wendy. Motion carries.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Committee &amp; Subcommittee Organization<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There will be a callout the week of Feb. 8 for committee members.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The deadline for online submissions of interest will be Feb. 26.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Members Outreach<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The LEC wants to make sure that all members get information in as many ways as possible:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Existing <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/CMGatCBCinToronto\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">private<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CMGatCBCinToronto\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">public<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Facebook pages. Send you personal email to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lynne Chichakian<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are exploring other social media platforms that might be appropriate for our members.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CBC Proposed Regulatory Changes<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CBC has <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">asked the CRTC for changes to their licence that could see more mandated content <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">moving from television and radio to digital.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The LEC will keep an eye on the outcome of the proposed changes and will work with members to get help get them transitioned if need be.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Toronto Temp Workers Committee<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Motion: <i>That the LEC approve up to 4 release days for the local Toronto Temp Committee to do a prep day in February.<\/i>\u00a0 Matt moved, Kat seconds. Motion carries.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Essential Workers Vaccination<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CBC does not make the decision on vaccinations, it comes from Toronto public health.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CBC has put out information on their stand on vaccinations and masks and it is available on IO.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Communication &amp; Radio<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The LEC is keeping an eye on any potential automation of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">program scheduling.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ONGOING BUSINESS<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Collective Agreement<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">French and English copies of the Collective Agreement will be dropped off at the office.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can still order a printed copy at the CMG website. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmg.ca\/en\/2020\/12\/01\/order-your-hard-copy-of-the-cmg-cbc-collective-agreement\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can get all the information at the CMG website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PDD<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PDDs are ongoing and the cycle will reset in September, 2021.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compliance numbers <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vary between departments<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">REPORTS &amp;
