As elected officials of CMG we can do so, but we should give a heads up to our\u00a0 manager about it. Not\u00a0 to ask permission, but because those who work under JSP it could impact the stories that they cover.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LUNCH BREAK\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ongoing buissness, continued.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STAFF REP AMA\u2013 Karren Hwang<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Myriam &#8211; Question when\u00a0 a member leaves for a continuous period of time on an approved\u00a0 leave and then returns to\u00a0 work. Working conditions are worse in terms of number of shifts and days of the week that\u00a0 they are scheduled following the leave than before they went on leave.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Employee is a temp. CBC has the right to assign the number of shifts and hours. \u00a0 But would need to know more info on member\u2019s employment status\u00a0 to know\u00a0 if\u00a0 there\u00a0 might be other avenues that can be pursued by CMG on behalf of\u00a0 the member.<\/li>\n<li>Myriam &#8211; casual AP, verbally extended\u00a0 her contract by a month.\u00a0 Verbal is OK says Arman, they don\u2019t have to re-issue a new contract.\u00a0 The verbal still\u00a0 counts but the member could reach out to the manager and ask for the info in writing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>1:35 motion to go in camera. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Myriam moves,\u00a0 Sheena seconds, passes unanimously<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Back at\u00a0 1:43\u00a0 Myriam motion to return, Jag seconds, passes unanimously<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lara &#8211; Question about MAR for flu or Covid absence up to five days clarification. She\u2019s local filmmaker.<\/li>\n<li>Allie &#8211; inspiration of the Amazon union, an opportunity to\u00a0 get\u00a0 our own members thinking about that and the power that it can have<\/li>\n<li>Lara &#8211; scheduling it on May 1st?<\/li>\n<li>Sarah -was also wondering about that day but also asks if it would make the day too long with cookies?<\/li>\n<li>Kat &#8211; could we stagger the shifts for us to have fewer LEC members in for the morning shift with the cookies?<\/li>\n<li>Myriam &#8211; can we\u00a0 get the film subtitled in French?<\/li>\n<li>Jag &#8211; we can ask them for a version with French subtitles<\/li>\n<li>Myriam &#8211; what about those who are\u00a0 hearing impaired or are visually impaired?<\/li>\n<li>Check into descriptive video<\/li>\n<li>Lara &#8211; Conference Centre as a back-up?\u00a0 Or would it be cost prohibitive?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Committees or Sub-committeess<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kat has the Comms ready to go out about\u00a0 the\u00a0 committees<\/span><\/li>\n<li>asks if we need more subcommittees?\u00a0 No<\/li>\n<li>changing\u00a0 language\u00a0 on some of the descriptions of subcommittees<\/li>\n<li>LJC \u2013\u00a0 removing the requirement for one spot to be specifically from SRC bc there is a now a dedicated spot assigned to an SRC member on the regional committee<\/li>\n<li>removing requirement from Health &amp; Safety that members work five days a week. Naomi Robinson suggested asking Jag &amp; Dave if it would be an issue to strike that &amp; they do not.<\/li>\n<li>Kat will send the call out to Jennifer on Friday\u00a0 (tomorrow) to go out on Tues. Feb. 18th to members<\/li>\n<li>goes\u00a0 through\u00a0 the different committees on time commitments for each\u00a0 committee<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nLJC<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>about\u00a0 one\u00a0 to five\u00a0 hours\u00a0 a month\u00a0 in preparation, research &amp; investigation ahead\u00a0 of\u00a0 monthly meeting<\/li>\n<li>local health and safety -meets monthly and monthly inspections divided up among 5 members<\/li>\n<li>meeting\u00a0 &#8211; one\u00a0 release day per month, with\u00a0 some prepare<strong>Local Temp Committee <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>meetings are quarterly, a lot of prep involved, meeting\u00a0 with temps and any issues they need to address at the meeting.<\/li>\n<li>Committee\u00a0 members are\u00a0 temp issue experts and a lot of knowledge among members<strong>Local Grievance Committee\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Brett Cousland Co-chair of the committee<\/li>\n<li>one of the most popular committees\u00a0 that members apply for<\/li>\n<li>often pre-meeting is 4\u00a0 hours before meeting discussing strategy<\/li>\n<li>have to be able\u00a0 to keep things confidential<\/li>\n<li>people who are\u00a0 strong, good knowledge of how things work in the building co-chair plus 3\u00a0 members and two alternates<strong>Elections committee<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>run all the local elections<\/li>\n<li>two members<\/li>\n<li>cannot hold a position or have intention to run<strong>Local PDD<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>supposed to ensure PDD compliance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>March Event<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kat &#8211; We Have Your Back Event?<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Myriam &#8211; International Women\u2019s Day March 8th<br \/>\n\u2013coffee &amp; donuts<br \/>\n\u2013Panel\u00a0 of women &amp; their careers, the Collective Agreement<br \/>\n\u2013Francophonie Month<br \/>\n\u2013event for International Women\u2019s Day on Thurs March 6th<br \/>\n\u2013coffee &amp; doughnuts<br \/>\n\u2013Sarah &#8211; ordering OFL posters &amp; pins (25)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>JSP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\nPut guidance out to\u00a0 members\u00a0 updates how they can include exploding maple leaf on bulletin boards but with\u00a0 no specific person\u2019s name attached to it<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Motion #1 to be taken to the BEC:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Toronto LEC feels strongly that due to the existential threat facing CBC\/SRC\u2019s future that<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">members\u00a0 should be able to clearly express pride in the institution that is the CBC\/SRC. This isn\u2019t just about our jobs, it&#8217;s about our belief in a crucial public service. We need to make members aware\u00a0 of the risks but still support them in taking these\u00a0 non-political collective actions. For\u00a0 example changing their profile picture to the CBC Gem or wearing a T-shirt with CBC branding that states Made in Canada. We want to make sure if\u00a0 members choose to partake in these kinds of collective actions that CMG defends them fiercely.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Motion Sheena moves, \u00a0 Allie Seconds<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Motion passes unanimously<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Motion #2 to be taken to the BEC:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Toronto location unit being the location with the\u00a0 largest number of members, while happy that the NEC has initiated a campaign to defend local journalism in Canada, would like to offer some feedback. How do we save the CBC\/SRC\u00a0 if we don\u2019t use the term CBC\/SRC? \u00a0 It feels like\u00a0 our union is letting politicians dictate the boundaries of discourse around a vital institution for all Canadians. It\u2019s also imperative that the campaign reflects the diversity of Canada and the audiences that we serve.\u00a0 Our members who are part of the Working Group have contributed significant amounts of research on public interest journalism and we want to ensure that it is reflected in the campaign. The campaign is titled Local Matters. We are asking if there is room to include words like news or journalism to reflect the purpose of the campaign.
