You can\u2019t refuse to cover an event taking place in a struck workplace.<\/li>\n<li>Your coverage must nonetheless respect the people involved in the dispute. If possible, avoid crossing picket lines and set up interviews away from the site of the strike or lockout.<\/li>\n<li>If it\u2019s absolutely necessary to cover an event from inside the picket line, talk to the picket captains before going in and respect their protocols.<\/li>\n<li>Limit your on-air comments. Strikers will not appreciate hearing a journalist say they are heading into a struck workplace. While the public has a right to be informed about what is going on, you can simply say you will gather information without saying that you will physically go to a struck workplace.<\/li>\n<li>If the event you are covering is in a struck workplace, it is entirely appropriate for you to mention that fact in your report in order to allow the listener or viewer to decide whether or not they want to participate.<\/li>\n<li>If you have any concerns or questions, please talk to a member of your local Guild executive or call the national office at 416-591-5333 or 1-800-465-4149.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>La couverture de gr\u00e8ves et de lock-outs : quelques conseils<\/p>\n<p>Voici quelques conseils pour les professionnels de l&#8217;information \u2013 et syndiqu\u00e9(e)s \u2013lorsqu&#8217;ils ont \u00e0 couvrir des \u00e9v\u00e9nements qui se d\u00e9roulent dans des lieux de travail en gr\u00e8ve ou en lock-out :<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Les journalistes et cam\u00e9ramans se doivent de demeurer neutres et impartiaux en tout temps.\u00a0 Il n&#8217;est donc pas question de refuser de couvrir un \u00e9v\u00e9nement qui se d\u00e9roule dans un lieu de travail en gr\u00e8ve ou en lock-out.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Cette couverture doit toutefois se faire dans le respect des personnes vis\u00e9es par le conflit de travail.\u00a0 On peut par exemple, ne pas franchir les piquets de gr\u00e8ve et fixer des interviews \u00e0 l&#8217;ext\u00e9rieur du lieu o\u00f9 se d\u00e9roule le conflit.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 S&#8217;il faut absolument couvrir un \u00e9v\u00e9nement \u00e0 l&#8217;int\u00e9rieur du lieu en gr\u00e8ve,\u00a0 il est conseill\u00e9 de parler aux directeurs du piquet de gr\u00e8ve avant d&#8217;entrer,\u00a0 et de respecter le temps d&#8217;attente fix\u00e9 si tel est le cas.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Soyez circonspect dans vos commentaires \u00e0 l&#8217;antenne.\u00a0 Les gr\u00e9vistes ou cadenass\u00e9s peuvent ne pas appr\u00e9cier entendre un journaliste indiquer qu&#8217;il va aller dans le lieu de travail en gr\u00e8ve ou en lock-out.\u00a0 Le public a le droit \u00e0 l&#8217;information sur ce qui se passe dans ce lieu de travail en gr\u00e8ve,\u00a0 et on peut tout simplement indiquer aux auditeurs ou t\u00e9l\u00e9spectateurs qu&#8217;on va se renseigner sur cet \u00e9v\u00e9nement afin de pouvoir en rendre compte,\u00a0 sans n\u00e9cessairement dire qu&#8217;on va y aller physiquement.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Il est \u00e9galement correct d&#8217;indiquer dans son topo ou reportage que l&#8217;\u00e9v\u00e9nement se d\u00e9roule dans un lieu qui est frapp\u00e9 d&#8217;une gr\u00e8ve et un lock-out, afin de laisser le choix \u00e0 l&#8217;auditeur et au t\u00e9l\u00e9spectateur de d\u00e9cider s&#8217;il va y aller ou non.<\/p>\n<p>Enfin,\u00a0 nous encourageons les membres de la Guilde qui ont des h\u00e9sitations ou des questions \u00e0 ce sujet \u00e0 en parler \u00e0 un membre de leur comit\u00e9 local ou \u00e0 t\u00e9l\u00e9phoner au bureau national au 1-800-465-4149 (\u00e0 Toronto,\u00a0 416-591-5333).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here are some tips for news professionals \u2013 and Guild members \u2013 who are covering events that take place in workplaces where a strike or lockout is underway: Reporters and videographers must remain neutral at all times.
