Au cours des ann\u00e9es 1890, elle s&rsquo;implique dans le mouvement ouvrier de Toronto en tant que po\u00e8te et plus tard \u00e0 titre de pr\u00e9sidente de la Working Girls&rsquo; Union. Cet activisme a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le cl\u00e9 dans l&rsquo;organisation des femmes domestiques &#8211; la forme la plus courante d&#8217;emploi r\u00e9mun\u00e9r\u00e9 pour les femmes canadiennes avant 1900 &#8211; au sein de la Working Women&rsquo;s Protective Association. L&rsquo;une de ses campagnes \u00e9tait pour les services de tramways le dimanche!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fotheringham est \u00e9galement consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme la premi\u00e8re po\u00e9tesse de la classe ouvri\u00e8re au Canada. Dans son livre <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Songs That Quinte Sang<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> vous pouvez trouver sa pi\u00e8ce la plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bre, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Only A Working Girl<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Le po\u00e8me compare la classe ouvri\u00e8re \u00e0 la royaut\u00e9 aux yeux de Dieu et appelle les femmes \u00e0 \u00eatre fi\u00e8res du travail qu&rsquo;elles accomplissent.
