I’m Anis Heydari, vice-president of the CMG’s CBC Calgary location branch, and currently the Prairie representative on the CBC Branch Executive for CBC.
I’m running to be your CBC branch vice-president.
As workers at the CBC, you need someone who understands all our roles.
I’ve been a field technician, a studio technician, a field journalist, and on air and off air.
I have a deep knowledge of how we do things, and what we need from our managers.
I have been deeply involved as one of your union representatives in some intense months.
And I want to step up my involvement.
I currently represent CBC workers on the national stage already on the national joint committee, and co-chair the national news issues committee.
As a business and economic journalist, I have first hand knowledge of how budgets work – including how the CBC’s budget can and should work, and how our funding models compare to the private sector and beyond.
I’ve volunteered with unions in various industries from retail to telecom to broadcasting since my first job – a long time ago, though not in a galaxy far away. I’ve been locked out, on strike, and at the bargaining and grievance tables. I know how to negotiate and I know when to fight.
Having been dubbed a “human Marge Simpson hrm noise,” I bring a healthy skepticism to my elected roles and would like to do the same when at the national executive table.
It’s also important to have representation from outside Ontario.
My extensive experience as both an editorial and technical staffer lends to a unique perspective.
Thanks in advance for your vote of confidence.
