The Canadian Media Guild, representing 6,000 media-workers across Canada, welcomes today’s announcement by the leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Mark Carney.

A thriving Canadian media ecosystem, including strong local news and a relevant, and responsive public broadcaster – that’s accountable to all Canadians — are a cornerstone of Canadian identity. They are a uniting force as our country faces unprecedented threats from Donald Trump and the United States.

A strong, relevant, and responsive public broadcaster — accountable to all Canadians — is crucial to how we as a country keep ourselves well-informed; telling our local, fact-based, stories at a time when misinformation and disinformation are running rampant, and U.S. tech oligarchs look to dominate what we see and hear.

We invite all parties to support Canadian media, especially CBC/Radio-Canada. These are needed investments to make our country strong, united, and well-informed at this unprecedented time of crisis.
