One-Time CMG Scholarship
This year, the CBC/Radio-Canada Branch is offering a one-time $1000 scholarship towards post-secondary education for CBC/Radio-Canada CMG members or those in their immediate family. This is in place of access to this year’s Belcarz Zeidler fund from our parent union, CWA Canada. Please fill in this form by June 27. Applicants must be enrolled in, or about to enter, a full-time post-secondary program. You can watch this page for other union scholarship opportunities.
Join a Union Working Group
Parental Leave – During the 2025 CMG Convention, a committee to examine CBC/Radio-Canada employee parental leave and make it a bargaining priority was struck. The committee is looking for members to do research, gather stories, and create a survey for members. Northern Issues – Also coming out of convention, there were a number of concerns raised unique to employees in the north. We’re calling on interested members from NWT, Yukon, Nunavut & Labrador, so together we can research and mobilize on issues specific to the North. Social Worker Coverage Extended
CMG thanks all our members who sent very personal stories about how losing access to the social worker psychological support services would affect them. We shared anonymized accounts with management, and were heartened to see that they were moved to extend coverage until September 30/25. In the meantime, all four unions at CBC/Radio-Canada are working hard to find agreement with management on an updated benefits package that will not cost the corporation more money.
2023 Pension Surplus Sharing Payment
Eligible members should be receiving payment for the CBC/Radio-Canada pension plan surplus from 2023 in the coming weeks. Instructions have been sent on how to choose whether you would like to receive payment directly (with tax deducted), or assign it to go into your CBC/Radio-Canada Group RRSP tax-free. There will be another payment coming later this year for 2024 pension surplus as well.
ULP
There have been a couple of mediation sessions with CBC/Radio-Canada management, where we are working with a CIRB officer to look for resolution on our Unfair Labour Practice complaint. Although there is no definitive outcome yet, we continue to work with our legal counsel to ensure that information was properly disclosed during bargaining in 2024, and we were fairly treated monetarily. We’ll update you once we have more to report.
CMG Convention 2025 Wraps
Over 100 CBC/Radio-Canada CMG members joined their Guild siblings from CP, TVO, APTN, Zoomer, CNO and others in Toronto, May 26 – 28. Lots of enthusiastic debate over bylaw amendments and proposed resolutions from our delegates and observers who travelled in from across the country, in our democratic process to steer our union!
