For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Maria Carmen Gutierrez and I am the local

CMG President in Vancouver for the last 4 years.  I have been a union activist for about 10 years now.  It started innocently enough wanting to ensure a healthy and safe work environment for myself

and my colleagues.  In the last 7 years, I have been a part of the National Grievance Committee and

advocating for members in this capacity is proving to be a passion and fulfillment I have

thoroughly enjoyed.  Knowing that you have made a difference in a colleagues work life is a

reward that is extremely gratifying and for those of us who have been lucky to be a part of it, we understand why we continue to step up as a union leader. I have also been a part of the Branch Executive Committee as Director for BC and have been involved in the planning of the last President’s Council as well as the last Convention during Branch Day. I have been fortunate enough to be a delegate for CMG in the past term. This role has helped me extend my knowledge and establish connections with other union activists under our parent union, CWA, and this has been invaluable to my growth and my ability to serve members from the BC Region.  It is with this desire to continue growing, serving and helping others that I believe I would be a good candidate as a delegate for CMG.
