Hello, my name is Sheena and I’m a Chief Steward for the Canadian Media Guild at CBC Toronto.

I got involved in my union with the express goal of growing our stewards network, boosting union engagement and building member power. I do this because I believe a union is only as strong as its members.

Doing this work requires building solidarity and communication at all levels — with our rank-and-file members, with our union leaders at all levels, and with our sibling unions. I believe the more closely we all work together, the stronger we are.

That is why I want to attend the CWA Canada National Representative Council. As a delegate, I will learn more about our union structure, build new connections with our parent union and its members, and make sure our members at CBC Toronto are well-represented in any decisions that will affect them.

Because I will be representing our members at this convention, I will use any knowledge I gain or connections I make in their service, using it to better educate, inform and empower my Local Executive Council, which represents thousands of members here at CBC in Toronto, and our robust local stewards network, who are our front-line volunteers and, I believe, the heart and soul of our union.
