CMG has bolted out the gates in this term like a fire horse! Member engagement is strong, and all levels of CMG leadership are busy with delegate races, local by-elections, member surveys, and committee placements. THANK YOU for making our union strong and united! Here are some updates to share with you.
Join the Bargaining Team
We’ve extended the deadline to apply for the bargaining committee to February 27. Preparations will begin this spring with training and consultation, building to 7 full weeks of interest-based negotiations between October 2026 and March 2027, so please ensure you’re able to make the time commitment. Please apply here if you’re interested.
CBC/Radio-Canada Branch National Committees
Thank you to all who applied for our CBC/Radio-Canada Branch national committees. We have now filled every seat, and you can find which of your colleagues sit on these teams here.
CMG Member Survey
You should have received an email link to a Leger survey that CMG is running to better understand your priorities and opinions about CBC/Radio-Canada proposals. Please take 10 minutes to fill it in before February 27. If you did not receive the email link, reach out to info@cmg.ca
Pay Equity Work
New federal legislation requires CBC/Radio-Canada to evaluate all jobs to try and address historic pay gaps between job categories. We thank our dedicated members who have been doing an enormous amount of work to set up a new evaluation system, and continue to offer their skills and expertise. If you would like to do support work for this committee, please email naomi.cmgto@gmail.com
L&D Committee News
Just a heads up from the National Joint Committee on Learning and Development that CBC/Radio-Canada will soon offer AI Fundamentals workshops for News. Currently, workshops for those working outside of News are already available for self-enrollment. This full-day training will be offered to staff beginning late March. Once dates have been published on Workday, you can self-enroll for a date/time you prefer, and your manager/supervisor will receive a task in their Workday inbox to approve your attendance.
Through Workday Learning you can browse the course catalogue to see the various learning opportunities that might suit your needs and interests. From here, you’ll see a link to the Learning Resource Library. Within that library, you can access the Content Creator’s Toolkit (Technical Tools and Resources Portfolio), where you’ll find many resources specifically designed to help content creators with everyday tasks.
For help navigating around Workday Learning and/or to see your learning history, check out this resource page. Feel free to reach out to committee co-chair Adrienne Lamb for direct assistance.
Temp Orientation Sessions
CBC/Radio-Canada and CMG are co-hosting monthly onboarding sessions for temporary employees.
The orientation is designed to give temps:
- An overview of the tools in Workday and IO that they will need to fulfill tasks such as filling out a time card or knowing how to access their benefits.
- A guide to their rights and benefits under the Collective Agreement and the support the CMG offers temps
- Understanding the career resources and support offered by The Temp Project.
If you are interested in attending, please inform your manager so they can schedule you accordingly. Then use this link to follow the steps to register. Once your registration is received and approved by your manager, you will receive a calendar invitation to join the virtual meeting.
We strongly encourage temps to sign up for it if you haven’t already done so. We cover a wide range of topics – from how to figure out your benefits and when you get paid for overtime, etc. to career advice and support. Even if someone has been at CBC/Radio-Canada for a few years, we find temps who come to these sessions often learn something they didn’t know about career development, their union rights or Workday and HR rules.
If someone can’t make this session, there will be more in the future. You can sign up for e-mails at the sign-up link above. If you are not scheduled to work that day and would like to attend, please use your CBC/Radio-Canada email to send a note to temp-project@cbc.ca to register.
In Solidarity,
CBC/Radio-Canada Branch Executive Council
