Journalists and Canada’s Online News Act Survey

This message is being shared on behalf of the Simon Fraser University research team conducting a national study on the experiences and impacts of emerging legislation on journalists in Canadian newsrooms.

We would like to invite you to participate in a national research opportunity.

Understanding the Consequences of Bill C-18 for Canadian Journalists:

As a journalist, your perspective is critical to understanding how the Online News Act is affecting the profession and the broader news ecosystem in Canada. By participating, you will help document the opportunities, challenges, and unintended consequences that regulatory changes may create for journalists and news organizations.

The results will inform research and policy discussions, ensuring that the experiences and concerns of working journalists are part of conversations about the future of Canadian journalism.

The survey takes approximately 15- 20 minutes to complete and is available in English & French. The results of the survey will be used exclusively for scholarly purposes, including policy reports, academic articles and book chapters, and not sold or passed onto third parties. An executive summary of the key findings from this survey will be shared with respondents if they share their contact information at the end of the survey. Participation is voluntary, and responses will remain confidential.

If you would like to participate, please find a link to the consent form and questionnaire in the message that was emailed directly to members.

If you would like to request additional information, we’d be happy to discuss the details further.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

All the best,Dr. Sarah Anne Ganter
