A majority of employees at the radio hub newsroom at Maritime Broadcasting System in Halifax have signed cards to join the Canadian Media Guild. The CMG has filed the cards with the Canada Industrial Relations Board and is seeking immediate certification of the unit.
The Halifax radio hub provides news to stations owned by MBS across the Maritimes, including to the stations in Saint John where employees joined CMG in 2011. The Saint John group is in negotiations for a first collective agreement.
“We are committed to helping workers in private radio improve their working conditions,” says Carmel Smyth, national president of the CMG. “We’re proud of our newest members in Halifax in taking this step and joining with us.”
