I’m Brent Cousland, Resource Specialist at CBC News in Toronto, I was the CMG Secretary-Treasurer this past term and have sat on numerous union committees. I have a strong Union belief and have always strived at working toward making the Canadian Media Guild the best it can be for our members. As a Delegate I will make sure the due money we pay to CWA Canada, NewsGuild and CWA are well spent and that we receive as much funding and co-operation in return as possible. During the last Federal Election we faced a major threat from a Defund CBC campaign, the loss of Federal funding for CBC would greatly affect our members and the CMG. Thanks to the prior CMG’s leadership, we were able to secure grant funding from our CWA parent Union to run a campaign against the Defund CBC movement. In the past we have also received Education funding and Organizing support from CWA Canada, and I would like to continue to strengthen that support. During my time on the CMG Executive I was successful in advocating and supporting changes to our email policies and introduction of a new member software that better protects members personnel information, introduction of DEI training for CMG elected officials and a redesign of the CMG website to make it easier for members to find Union information. As a delegate I would advocate for similar changes at the CWA Canada level to better serve our members.
