Thirty artists and personalities from across Canada will share their talents on Monday, March 9, at the National Arts Centre Theater in Ottawa (NAC), to show support for CBC/Radio-Canada, which is endangered by downsizing and unprecedented budget cuts.
This bilingual happening, organized by the citizens’ group Radio-Canada, j’y tiens !/ CBC I Care! with the support of the Canadian Media Guild (CMG) will be without any doubt an unforgettable evening!
The following artists have already graciously agreed to take part in the event which will be hosted by Candy Palmater and Gilles Payer, under the artistic direction of Joe Bocan and François Dubé as music director:
Greg Keelor (from Blue Rodeo) – Sarah Slean – R.H. Thomson
Julian Armour & Jean Desmarais – Amanda Rheaume
Friendly Rich – Evalyn Parry
Big Soul Project – Remesha
Lisa LeBlanc – Yann Perreau – Damien Robitaille – Jean-Marc Dalpé
Alexandre Désilets – Micheline Scott – Guy Perreault
Pierrette Froment-Savoie – Ricky Laurent – Quartom
With the next federal elections looming, prominent supporters will express their concern about the latest round of cuts. They will also be offering potential solutions to address the future of our national public broadcaster.
According to the co-chairs of Radio-Canada, j’y tiens!/CBC, I Care!, Louise Poirier and Clive Doucet, “A gathering, such as the one at the National Arts Centre on March 9, will send a clear message to policymakers that Canadians all across the country wish to keep their national public broadcaster, with sufficient resources to be able to fulfill the mandate entrusted to it by the Canadian Parliament. ”
The concert is already set to play to a full house! Through the power of social media, word of the event spread quickly and reserved tickets went fast. At this time the organizers are working hard to find a second venue with a large screen to allow as many people as possible to join together in their love for our public broadcaster.
