Guild members concerned about cuts to CP staff in Toronto and Montreal

The Canadian Press announced yesterday it will be ending French-language radio newscasts and closing the CP video desk in the coming weeks. The cuts affect eight full-time employees and several part-time employees. These members have our support and assistance during this tough time and the Canadian Media Guild (CMG) is following the process carefully to ensure that members’ rights are respected.

Losing our co-workers and the quality services they provide is a blow to all of us. The Guild has expressed concern to the company about the impact these cuts will have on CP and on the workload of the members who remain. We also continue to urge the company to make sure that no stone is left unturned when it comes to finding new sources of revenue.

If you are directly affected by the layoffs and have not had the chance to speak to a CMG staff representative, you can reach out to Karen Wirsig (karen@cmg.ca) in Toronto and Olivier Desharnais-Roy (olivier@cmg.ca)  in Montreal. If you have questions or concerns about the impact these cuts will have on your work, please get in touch with us.
