Join a Guild committee at CBC

Get involved at the Guild at CBC by joining one of the four committees below. Much of the work happens by conference call; in some cases there are in-person meetings, usually in Toronto. Committee members get paid time off from work to attend joint meetings with management and travel costs for members outside Toronto are covered.

National grievance committee: a joint union-management committee that handles grievances referred to the national level. We are looking for one member and special consideration will be given to applicants from Atlantic Canada.

Transmission health and safety committee: a multi union-management joint committee provided for under the Canada Labour Code that helps the national and local health and safety committees to address issues specific to the Transmission workplace, including working at heights, high voltages, radio frequency radiation, all-terrain vehicles, and isolated locations.  We are looking for 4 members.

Communications committee: a Guild committee that will develop and implement a strategy to improve union communications for Guild members at CBC across the country

New members, Temporary &Youth committee: a Guild committee that will work with the New Members Temp & Youth Director to reach out to new members, temporary employees and younger members across the country.

The Guild executive at CBC will make the final selection of members of each committee. The selection process will be done in accordance with the CBC Branch Policy on Committees. Except for the national grievance committee, where we are filling a vacancy, all positions on the other committees are being reconsidered according to the policy. If you are an existing committee member and wish to remain on the committee, you need to reapply at this time.

Please submit a separate application for each committee you would like to join to cbcbec@cmg.ca with the name of the committee in the subject line, and include:

–       Your name and work location

–       Details on why you are interested in joining the committee

–       Your relevant experience

–       The order of preference of the committees (if you apply to more than one).

The deadline for applications is 5 pm ET on Friday May 11. If you are not selected for a committee at this time, your application will be kept on file for future vacancies and sub-committee work. Your union needs you! Thanks to all who participate in Guild committees.
