Maintenance and IT Review

Dear Members,

You’ve been very patient as we’ve combed through the long-awaited maintenance and IT compensation review report.

We were finally able to present our findings to CBC management in early December 2020, and offer recommendations. This was the first step in a process which will likely require many more discussions with CBC management .

Based on our assessment of the report, it’s CMG’s position that for some positions, there are significant gaps between compensation paid by CBC and the labour market.

CMG believes the Corporation should offer additional remuneration or a premium to close that gap.

CBC management is currently studying the report.

The positions studied were those in the Broadcast Technology Career Structure (see article 56), as well as Applications Support Specialist and Desktop Support Specialist.

The purpose of the review was to identify and make recommendations to correct any market condition deficits.

As stipulated in the agreement, which led to the ratification of the CMG-CBC/Radio-Canada 2019-2024 collective agreement, our union contracted a firm to conduct an extensive compensation review of positions in maintenance and IT classifications.

As set out in the letter of agreement, any determination or action by the corporation as a result of the review is “subject to available funding.”

Due to the confidential nature of the report, it cannot be shared with individual members in its entirety.

In mid-January however, we will hold a Zoom Town Hall to go over the report, and provide a PowerPoint presentation with a more detailed look at the findings.

In solidarity,
