National Grievance Committee – Dates set for outside activities arbitration

The National Grievance Committee met with the CBC at the end of April to address the grievances that were referred to the committee for resolution.

The committee dealt with outstanding issues from the past round of meetings and resolved three grievances.

Update on ban on Outside Activities – The parties have agreed on an arbitrator and on dates to begin hearings on the policy grievance regarding CBC’s ban on Outside Activities imposed last January. The parties have selected arbitrator Russell Goodfellow to begin hearing the case on June, 15.

Of the remaining grievances, one was resolved and there are two tentative solutions awaiting completion of the process.

There were discussions regarding inconsistencies around Leave Without Pay requests, and the committee discussed a means to speed up and centralize all requests.

We also considered two new grievances related to Hiring and Promotion.

Finally, the committee once again looked at the issue of mandatory medical absence reports and continues discussions to resolve it. In the meantime the union’s position remains firm as per our communiqué of Jan. 30, 2015 .

As always, if you have any questions about your rights or you believe your rights may have been violated, the committee encourages you to seek out your local CMG representatives who are there to help you. To know who your local representatives are please click here.
