PMNA has announced it will be cutting  the equivalent of  9 full-time positions in the editor classifications in Calgary and in Toronto. As a result, some CMG members will be affected.

As a union, we are here to provide guidance and advice to anyone who receives a layoff notice.

Our collective agreement with PMNA includes protections for union members facing  layoffs, as well as provisions for the union and the company to negotiate voluntary departures.

Anyone who elects to take a voluntary layoff will receive the same severance package as an employee getting a layoff notice.  These payments generally come as a lump sum.

CMG union representatives are available to assist members who are impacted, or to discuss departure details for anyone interested in negotiating a voluntary layoff.

In addition to severance pay, permanent employees who are laid off, and do not elect to volunteer, will have access to bumping and recall rights.

The CMG, through CWA Canada, also offers union members assistance for training or education through free access to the online service Lynda.com, and a $500 grant that can be used to help with personal or professional development.

Losing a job can be one of the most devastating experiences, especially during this time of increased stress due to the COVID-19 crisis.

CMG members at PMNA will continue to work together for improved working conditions, fairness, and benefits, and a strong collective agreement that supports all our colleagues. And we will support one another, and ensure members’ rights are respected during this difficult time.
