Donnie R

After 40 years in radio, Saint-John radio personality and CMG member, Donnie Robertson  is turning off his mic.

Radio has been in Donnie Robertson’s blood all his life. His parents remember at the age of five Donnie sitting by the radio and mimicking announcers.
DonnieDonnie started at CFBC in September of 1970, then soon accepted an offer to work in his home town of Halifax. Two years later he was back in Saint John hosting the first rock show on the station from 7 to midnight.

In 1973 Donnie moved to mornings and has been doing it ever since. Generations of fans have grown up listening to “Donnie in the Morning”.  His voice and humour will be missed.

CMG_StJohnsRadioPoster_v5At CMG, we also have fond memories of Donnie’s social activism and commitment to improving working conditions for everyone in private radio.  As part of a committed group of activists, known as “The Saint John Seven” he helped bring the union to MBS Radio.  Along with the improvements in working conditions, Donnie and the Saint John 7 won the respect of media workers across the country, particularly in private radio for their courage to stand up and fight for what’s right.

What an inspiration!

Thank you Donnie and happy (well deserved) retirement.

National President, Canadian Media Guild
