You are invited to the CMG biennial Convention

Every two years the CMG holds a convention to meet members and debate problems and solutions.   This year the convention will be held  May 23-25 in Toronto.

If you are interested or want to share ideas, please see your local union executive. Below are two things you should know :

Selecting your delegates to the CMG convention

The CMG convention will take place May 23 to 25 at the Westin Harbour Castle hotel in Toronto.

This is a reminder that the names and email addresses of branch and location delegates must be received by Margaret O’Sullivan (margaret@cmg.ca) no later than February 7.

Branch executive council members and location unit presidents are automatic delegates. CBC and CP location units have an additional entitlement: click here for details.

Branches and location units may also send observers to the convention at their costs. Check with your branch or location executive.

Proposing resolutions to the CMG convention

You have an opportunity to help direct your national union leadership by proposing resolutions for the upcoming CMG national convention.

Resolutions can deal with union policy or even amend the CMG or CBC Branch bylaws. Click here to see the current CMG bylaws. Click here to see the current CBC Branch bylaws.

Any member in good standing of the CMG can put forward a resolution, whether or not s/he plans to attend the convention. Don’t forget to have your resolution seconded by another member.

The deadline for submitting proposed bylaw amendments is Wednesday, March 26. General policy resolutions can be made any time up to and including at the convention itself, but circulating resolutions in advance leads to better-informed discussion and debate. Also, if there is a problem with the resolution, it allows time for the Resolutions Committee to contact you so that it can be fixed.

Submitting them in advance also means other members can see what you are proposing before they arrive at the Convention. All resolutions submitted to the national office by March 26 will be included in pre-convention kits sent to delegates.

To submit a resolution, visit http://www.cmg.ca/en/resolutions/

For more information, write to info@cmg.ca or call the national office at 416-591-5333 or 1-800-465-4149.
