Here are the biographical notes for the two CMG members seeking the position of NEC Director of Francophone Affairs
My name is Jerome Atanagana
I am a candidate for the position of Director of Francophone Affairs on the National Executive Committee of the Canadian Media Guild .
I have 30 years of experience in Television & Production Remote facilities, and have spent 6 years as a studio maintenance technologist at CBC/SRC-Toronto
Strenghtened by this experience and my knowledge of the concerns and challenges members of the guild are facing, I wish to represent the voices of all francophones from coast to coast, wherever they are, to promote a balanced bilinguism through the National Executive Committee of the Canadian Media Guild .
Vote Jérôme Atangana
My name is John O’Connor and I am running for the vacant position of Director Francophone Affairs on the CMG National Executive Committee.
I have worked for CBC French radio services for 30 years in Saskatchewan as a studio tech, trainer and as an Associate Producer / Technician. I have been an active union member for over 15 years both locally and nationally. I am currently a member of the National Grievance committee for the CBC Branch and have been for the past 10 years I was also a member of the CBC Negotiating Committee during the 2008 round of bargaining. I am currently the Prairie Director on the CBC Branch Executive Committee.
I am a firm believer in the value of a strong voice in broadcasting as it pertains to the French language outside of Quebec and I am very concerned with the direction that all media platforms in the private and public sector are headed with regards to French language availability be it TV, radio, web or print journalism. We need to advocate for a change in direction and the restoration of our ability to produce quality French language programming for Canadians.
