Passion and inspiration at Labour Congress human rights conference

The Canadian Labour Congress held its first Human Rights and Equity Conference, called Rise Up for Your Rights, in December. The organizers had planned for 300 delegates but the response was overwhelming, so much that the conference had to turn people away. That frosty December week saw over 500 union activists, youth activists, organizers, artists, speakers and advocates pour into the nation’s capital. They hailed from the far stretches of this massive country, including a surprisingly good representation from the North.

As the incoming Director of Human Rights and Equity with the Canadian Media Guild, I had the pleasure of spending these few days getting acquainted with the CMG’s delegation*
