Advice for CMG members impacted by the US’s “two-gender” policy

The CMG opposes the declaration that the US is now a “two-gender” country, which calls for defining individuals throughout their lifetimes exclusively by their assigned sex at birth.

Your union knows that gender is a spectrum and will defend its members who might be impacted by this American policy that includes no longer recognizing the gender-neutral X on official documentation.

We are investigating the legal impacts of this for any members who work across the border. Also, we are planning to make some diversity training available for our members and continue to fight homophobia and transphobia despite any country’s shifting policies.

Members impacted by the new US policy are advised to avoid traveling to the US due to these new discriminatory requirements for entry and they should contact the Staff Reps to seek an accommodation in their work that avoids traveling to the US during this time, or to address any related concerns that may arise at their workplace.

In solidarity,

William Wang, Director of Equity, Canadian Media Guild

Annick R. Forest, President of the Canadian Media Guild
