The Canadian Media Guild (CMG) has an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to make a difference in both the union and media worlds. We are seeking an energetic and self-motivated Senior Staff Representative who will help lead our team serving members across the country.
The CMG represents 6,000 members across Canada, including employees at CBC, The Canadian Press, Thomson Reuters, the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network, TVO, tfo, Shaw Media, Zoomer TV, AFP, Private Radio, as well as media freelancers. Find out more at www.cmg.ca.
The successful candidate must have a minimum five years of experience as a servicing rep, including extensive bargaining and negotiating experience, proven ability to write contract language and lead a bargaining team.
He/she must have proven ability to develop and implement education and training programs for union staff and members, as well as experience supervising union staff, organizing and mobilizing members, and be able to travel (limited), to provide support for CMG executives.
The successful candidate must also have at least five years of experience in administering collective agreements and providing contractual support to members, extensive knowledge of trade unionism, the Canada Labour Code, Human Rights Legislation. He/she must be committed to the ideals of the labour movement. Candidates who are bilingual will be given strong preference. Knowledge of the media industry is also an asset. We are looking for a leader who works well in a team.
Wages and benefits are set according to the provisions of the Canadian Media Guild Employees Union/CMG collective agreement (available at cmg.ca), with additional pay for French language proficiency and in lieu of pension and benefits.
