Closing of TV listings service in Montreal means three layoffs at The Canadian Press

The Canadian Press announced today that it plans to close its French-language TV listings unit in Montreal. Three employees – one full-time and two part-time – as well as one management employee have received notice of layoff, effective the end of June.

The company decided to close the unit after one of its three clients announced it intended to not renew its contract, reducing the service’s revenue by more than 80 per cent.

The affected employees have been offered severance terms that meet or, in some cases, exceed the requirements of the CMG/The Canadian Press collective agreement. The Guild will ensure that the affected employees are treated fairly.
