Long-time CMG member and Canadian Press photographer Tom Hanson passed away suddenly on March 10, 2009 in Ottawa at the age of 41. His colleagues are mourning his passing.
“He was a photographer’s photographer,” writes Graeme Roy, director of news photography at The Canadian Press. “Tom’s talent was recognized by his peers in the Canadian photojournalism community when, out of all the newspaper photographers and freelancers who contributed to the wire service, a panel of photo editors from across the country named him as CP’s Photographer of the Year for 2002.
“Anyone who was lucky enough to work with Tom knows he was a fierce advocate for photojournalistic access rights. He was also funny, sometimes a bit loud and even a bit profane ? but at all times, he was a real pro.”
Tom leaves his wife, Catherine.
