Guild seeks staff representative dedicated to promoting equity

The Canadian Media Guild and its affiliated organization, CWA-SCA Canada, are inviting applications for a Staff Representative dedicated to promoting greater awareness of and commitment to equity, human rights, diversity and accessibility within our union and at the media employers where our members work.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated commitment to pursuing respect for human rights, equity and diversity, and solid experience in a labour or advocacy or community organization. He/she must be committed to the ideals of the labour movement. Located in Toronto, he/she shall also be responsible for supporting and guiding the union leadership at every level in the administration and enforcement of collective agreements. Annual salary is $80,000 plus benefits. This is a unionized position.

We are looking for candidates who have the following:
? Strong understanding of relevant human rights and workplace legislation, trends and best practices related to diversity
? At least 5 years’ experience in a labour, community or advocacy organization environment
? Experience within a union-management environment and/or training in (or a desire and the ability to learn) all the skills necessary for a union representative, including collective bargaining and grievance handling
? Well developed written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to consult, negotiate with a diverse range of people
? Ability to work independently and within a team environment
? Familiarity with the North American media industry
? Working knowledge of French is a significant asset
