Unionized STTRC Radio-Canada employees who work in Quebec and Moncton have been in negotiations for a new collective agreement since mid-March, but what management is offering them is unacceptable.  STTRC leadership says their members have been offered annual increases below inflation levels.  They are also concerned there is not enough offered on AI protections. So, a request has been made by STTRC for the Labour Board to intervene and assign a conciliator.  Our union colleagues in Quebec and Moncton could be in a legal strike or lockout position by mid-September.

The CBC/Radio-Canada Branch of the Canadian Media Guild stands in solidarity with our colleagues in STTRC as they fight for fair wages and working conditions. We will soon be bargaining too, and could face similar challenges in negotiations. CBC/Radio-Canada management must understand that the workers who make CBC/Radio-Canada every day are essential to its success, and care deeply about the integrity of our national public broadcaster.   But, as we learned from our members through our survey, CMG cannot accept wage increases that don’t keep up with the cost of living.

STTRC members are wearing yellow, or a yellow bracelet, to show support for their bargaining team.

The CMG CBC/Radio-Canada Branch will be distributing yellow bracelets that read “Solidarity/ Solidarité” in all of our local shops. Please ask your location unit executive committee members for one and wear it in the workplace to show management that we support the STTRC in their fight for fair wages and working conditions.
