Summer vibes – relax, recharge and stay safe

Summer is a time when we traditionally think of camping under the stars, hanging with friends on a patio or playing at the beach.

A new trend is emerging – summer is now a time we deal with the realities of climate change like wildfires, droughts, floods, severe storms and extreme temperatures.

This makes the summer months more challenging as folks deal with and report on life-changing climate events.

Aim to make space for yourself this summer and remember that we’re all stronger together. Taking your breaks during the workday are essential to maintain good health and holidays are an opportunity to reconnect with friends and family, or recharge in the natural world.

Check in on one another as recent studies have shown summer-pattern Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) has impacts on folks as well.

A big thanks to all those who step up over the summer months – like part-time or temporary workers – to give time and space for others to take much needed holidays.

Above all, I hope you stay safe this summer. Either while unwinding on a vacation or dealing with increasingly hostile environments close to home and on the job.

Here’s to rest, gentle sunshine and solidarity this summer season.
