Thomson Reuters offshoring Toronto jobs to Bangalore

Thomson Reuters management told employees in Toronto today that it is moving the online desk to Bangalore as of March 15, 2012. The move affects 22 Guild members in Toronto – 17 permanent and 5 temporary employees – and cuts the city’s newsroom by about a third.

“It’s really disappointing that Thomson Reuters – a profitable Canadian company – is offshoring jobs to pay people a pittance,” says Glenn Gray, staff representative of the Canadian Media Guild. “It’s not in the interest of our members, or of Canadians, for employers to throw people out of work and put downward pressure on our wages.”

The Guild will be holding a meeting Monday at 11 am in the Toronto office of Thomson Reuters. We will ensure that the rights of members affected by this decision are respected.

For more information, please contact the Guild (info@cmg.ca) at 416-591-5333 or 1-800-465-4149.
