We need your help – Survey of journalism in Canada

At CMG, we are always trying to find ways to improve working conditions for media workers. Part of that involves understanding how jobs, working conditions, and our industry are changing. With digital convergence and media mergers and acquisitions, there are major shifts in the industry that are affecting competition, audiences, workers and the way journalism is done. That’s why we got involved in a major research project with professors at the University of Western Ontario who are investigating the scale and scope of these trends in Canadian news media, particularly their impact on journalistic work and the quality of journalism available to Canadians.

A key piece of the research involves finding out what those of you who work in Canadian journalism are facing. We ask that you fill out the confidential survey and share it with colleagues in other workplaces. Please click here to complete the survey. The deadline is October 4.

The study is being conducted by Dr. James Compton and Dr. Edward Comor  of the Faculty of Information and Media Studies at the University of Western Ontario. The funding is provided by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). We will share the findings as soon as they are made available.
