The Guild’s parent union, CWA Canada, is offering a free video editing course for members. This professional development course will take place in Toronto from Nov. 12 to 16 and will involve five half-day sessions, mornings or afternoons. It will cover the basics of video production using the Final Cut Pro editing system.
All union members are eligible for the course, but enrolment is limited to 16. Applicants must be able to demonstrate they will use this training in their job in the near future. Preference will be given to applicants who have been recently laid off or whose jobs are threatened.
CWA Canada will cover travel and accommodation for out-of-town participants. Prospective students are expected to take the course on their own time, or seek time from their employer. Successful candidates will also be expected to do some online work in advance of the course start date.
If you’re interested, please send an e-mail to CWA Canada Administrative Co-ordinator Marj Botsford (mbotsford@cwa-scacanada.ca) with your name, location, contact information, employer name, job classification, and a brief note outlining why the course would be an asset to your employment situation and/or professional development. The deadline for applications is October 12.
We are exploring ways to put together a producer training course as well, so watch for details on that in the near future.
