Sign up for the Freelance Survival Series, Session 1

Wednesday, September 25th
9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Lillian H. Smith Public Library, 239 College St, Toronto, ON (just east of Spadina Ave)
Auditorium (lower level)

The Canadian Media Guild Freelance Branch cordially invites you to take part in a day-long seminar designed to help you succeed as an independent content producer. We know that it can be difficult to make a living in this era of converging markets and shrinking editorial budgets but we’ve assembled a great roster of professionals to help you with some of your most common issues.

Don Genova, Branch President and multimedia freelancer, and Alison Garwood-Jones, a Toronto-based writer and blogger, will talk about freelance opportunities and how to pitch your ideas.

Social Media and Marketing Strategist Amanda Lynne Ballard will solve the mystery of what Klout is and how Facebook and Twitter can help your career.

Chris Brookes is an independent radio producer with programs heard around the world. His presentation will make you prick up your ears.

We will also have advice from an accountant on whether you really can deduct that subscription to Toronto Life from your income. And if you’ve been wondering about those new contracts you have to sign that seem to ask for everything including your first-born we have advice for you on that as well.

There is no such thing as a free lunch, right? Well, maybe. If you are already a signed-up member of the Canadian Media Guild, admission is free, and so is the lunch. If you are not already a member, the cost for this jam-packed day of information and networking opportunities is $150…which includes a year-long membership to the CMG Freelance Branch, giving you access to health care benefits and much more.

Space is limited. Click here to register.

Brought to you by the Canadian Media Guild Freelance Branch and our parent union, CWA-Canada.
