Guild members at Shaw Media celebrate the summer over a Blue Jays game

The Blue Jays vs. Oakland As game did not turn out well for the Toronto team, but by all accounts, it was a great success for Guild members at Shaw who organized their summer get-together around the game. “This summer, the Shaw Media Branch of the CMG decided we would  try something a little different for our  union summer party,” said David Baker, the president of the Guild at Shaw. “ We’ve always held the summer events on a Thursday, usually late afternoon to early evening, with limited success in part because our members work different shifts, and it can be tough to get everyone together.”

This year, the union decided to try something different and go to a Blue Jays game. “We made it easier to plan ahead by choosing the Blue Jays vs. Oakland As game giving everyone a few weeks to organize, and RSVP. We also decided early on to have the event on a weekend and encourage our members to bring a guest, so there would be a nice family atmosphere to the event as well,” Baker said.  In total 50 people attended, and everyone had a fun afternoon at the ball game and enjoyed hanging out with fellow Guild members. The Blue Jays lost by two runs. The final was 6 – 4  – better luck next time on that front!
