We will soon begin negotiations for the renewal of our collective agreement. We will be sitting down to meet with representatives of the new management on Thursday February 23.
Many thanks to those of you who have answered our bargaining survey. We’re in the process of compiling the responses, and we’ll use them to help develop our priorities for this round of talks. If you haven’t done it yet, please complete and respond to the survey by the end of this week. You can download it http://www.cmg.ca/Shawbargainingsurvey-feb11.pdf .
A lot of things have changed since we signed our first collective agreement in December 2007. The company has changed hands not once but twice. Shaw Media is a very different company from Canwest Global, just as Canwest was different from Alliance Atlantis. The Guild’s overall goals, however, haven’t changed. Our primary objective is to make sure that our members are able to maintain stable and meaningful employment, and the best possible working conditions. We want to help ensure that Shaw Media does well financially, and that our members are in a position to share in the success of the organization.
We’ll have more to report as talks progress. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to talk to any one of us.
Your bargaining committee:
Mike Duong, CMG president at Shaw Media
Karen Wirsig, CMG Staff
Keith Maskell, CMG Staff Representative
